Dr Sekar Seshagiri
Principal Scientist, Genentech Inc., USA

Profile

Dr. Sekar Seshagiri with a PhD in genetics from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA where he studied mechanism of cell death regulation and evasion by viruses. Dr. Seshagiri, came to Genentech as a postdoctoral fellow to study the deregulation of cell death mechanisms in cancer. After a successful postdoctoral work in oncology and bioinformatics, he became a Scientist at Genentech. He currently is a Principal Scientist at Genentech. Dr. Seshagiri has authored and co-authored over forty articles in peer-reviewed journals including Science and Nature. His laboratory has been at the forefront of understanding underlying genetic changes in cancer genomes through systematic identification of somatic mutations in large number of cancer types and subtypes using a number of techniques including next generation sequencing. In addition to identifying these changes, the group has applied computational methods and functional assays to understand the role of cancer specific mutations in oncogenic signaling leading to new target discovery for therapeutic intervention. His laboratory is also involved in developing diagnostic and prognostic markers to enable personalized cancer therapy.
