Amit Dutt ACTREC, India

Dr. Amit Dutt is an Asst. Professor and Principal Investigator (Scientist E) at ACTREC, Cancer Reserach Institute, Tata Memorial Center, Navi Mumbai since Nov 2010. Dr. Dutt recipient of Ramalingaswami Fellowship Award 2010 from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, is also an awardee of the Wellcome Trust/ DBT India Alliance Intermediate Fellowship 2011.

Dr. Dutt started his scientific career as a CSIR-UGC fellow at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi. After completing his two years of doctoral training (1998-2000) in plant genetics under the supervision of Dr. Vanga Siva Reddy and Dr. Arif Ali at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Dr. Dutt pursued another Ph.D. in Developmental Biology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland in the laboratory of Dr. Alex Hajnal studying the cell fate specification during vulval development in C.elegans. Dr. Dutt's work modified and extended the text book view of vulval development in C.elegans. A part of his work was published as a research article (Dutt et al; PLoS Biol. 2004 Nov;2(11):e334).

In the United States, Dr. Dutt joined the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Meyerson at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in 2005 along with a post-doctoral fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation, Switzerland to study cancer causing alterations using genomic approaches. His work primarily focused on systematic discovery of cancer genome somatic alterations followed by in vitro functional validation of the oncogenic mutation. Based on his findings of a novel therapeutic target FGFR2 in endometrial cancer, a high profile clinical trial is presently underway at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston (Dutt et. al 2008; PNAS, USA). Dr. Dutt's research has resulted in several other publications (PLoS One 2011; Cancer Discovery 2010; Cancer Res 2011; Chem Biol 2010; Nature Genet 2009 & 2007; PNAS 2009; Brit J Canc 2009; Nature 2008; Canc Biol & Ther 2009;etc. ).
