Dr. V. Mohan is the Chairman and Chief of Diabetology at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre which is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Noncommunicable Diseases Prevention and Control and IDF Centre of Education. He is also President and Director of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation. Dr. Mohan was awarded several prizes and medals during his undergraduate and postgraduate medical studies. He was also a Wellcome Trust Fellow, UK and a Fellow of the Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation, Germany. Dr. Mohan has published over 925 papers in peer reviewed journals including 594 original articles, 181 review articles and invited editorials and 152 chapters to text-books on Diabetes and Internal Medicine published in India and abroad. His work has a h-index of 78 and has over 28,762 citations. His current research areas of interest include Epidemiology of Diabetes and its complications, Genomics of Diabetes and Prevention of diabetes through community empowerment. Dr. Mohan has received over 130 awards including the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy National Award by the Medical Council of India, the Basanthi Devi Amirchand Prize from the Indian Council of Medical Research. He received Fellowships from all the four Royal College of Physicians namely, FRCP London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland and was elected Fellow of all the three Science Academies of India, ie., FNA, FASc, FNASc. He was also been conferred the prestigious Diabetes Technology Society Leadership Award from the Diabetes Technology Society, San Francisco, USA.

Dr. Mohan provides life long free treatment to thousands of poor patients through the free diabetic clinics that he runs along with the Sri Sathya Sai Organization.

For his extensive contribution in the field of diabetes, Dr. Mohan was awarded the Padma Shri from the Govt. of India in 2012.
